Please contact the parish office at 973-887-5572 to speak to Fr. Owen about receiving the sacrament and/or if a loved one is in the hospital or a nursing home and you wish to have them anointed. The Anointing of the Sick is to offer prayers for possible recovery, but the important intention is to give strength to the soul of the sick person. This sacrament offers a special grace to calm and strengthen the spirit. It can be of great comfort in time of illness. You may ask to receive the sacrament at any time that you are to undergo surgery under general anesthetic and when you have a serious injury or illness. Advanced age may also be a sufficient reason too. You may receive this sacrament more than once. In fact, all Catholics of any age are encouraged to ask for this sacrament any time a new condition or surgery arises. The presence of loved ones and friends who pray along with the priest is very important at the Anointing. The rite consists of the "laying on of hands" and the anointing of the hands and forehead of the sick person by the priest.
