The Twenty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
September 5, 2010

Labor Day evokes many feelings in our hearts. We give God thanks for the dignity of work, and we strive to understand all work cannot be interesting. Some work is dull, some is mundane; but work is certainly a part of life. The return of a phone call or an email, doing laundry, doing yard work, is sometimes a chore; but let’s thank God for the health to be able to do the activity and to remember the words of St. Therese of Lisieux - "Do ordinary things in an extraordinary way."
Isn’t it funny however, on Labor Day we do as little labor as possible and for most people, there is a nostalgic feeling towards this last weekend of summer. Last weekend it was interesting to see a lot of returning families and hear the stories of their summer. Our Morris Catholic High School families were missing last weekend as they attended a family Mass and barbecue at the school. Some parents were missing as they brought their children back to college and some returned a little sad to the "empty nest" syndrome. So!!! I guess Labor Day is really about re-grouping and new beginnings. We’re all certainly looking forward to welcoming back our Academy children this Tuesday. The summer fun is over and work begins.
We look forward to welcoming back Cycle A Religious Ed children next Sunday and Cycle B on September 19th. Our 10th grade Youth Ministry teens return on September 19th beginning with a parent - teen meeting at 5:00pm in the church. Our 9th graders’ session begins on September 26th at 5:00pm in the church. For all Religious Ed and Youth Ministry parents, please see inside this bulletin for more information regarding this.
Everyone has spoken very positively about the car we have chosen for the car raffle. What a great BMW it is!!! It’s stylish, powerful and would suit any person of any age. I do ask that every family who received raffle tickets, please try to sell them or, if you can afford it, buy the tickets yourself. I realize $100 is a lot of money; but if you could buy $50 and sell $50 worth of tickets, it might not be as difficult. I can’t imagine any co-worker or friend living out of town who wouldn’t be thrilled to spend $5 or maybe even $20 and receive a chance to win this terrific car. We certainly do need the revenue this year; and that is why I appeal to you who might be financially stretched, to sell them to co-workers, family, friends, etc. I’ll speak more on this in the weeks ahead. I thank you and I thank all our volunteers who sit in the booth selling tickets, for the love and support you give us - this support which makes all the difference in a difficult economy.
Do remember next week we return to our regular Mass schedule: Saturday 5:30pm, Sunday 7:30am - 9:00am - 10:30am - 12:15pm and 7:00pm.
