Sacrament of Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is conferred, in the Diocese of Paterson, in the 10th Grade. The guidelines for reception of this Sacrament are issued by the Office of the Bishop. The guidelines state each candidate must attend the two year preparation sessions (9th and 10th Grade). All candidates for Confirmation must attend sessions in their parish; it makes no difference if they are Public or Catholic High School students. Each candidate must make one retreat in each year and must complete a specific number of hours of social service, each year, to be confirmed.

At St. Rose of Lima, our sessions are held on Sunday nights from 5:15 PM concluding with the 7:00 PM Mass. Each group (9th or 10th grade) meets once a month starting in September and ending in March. Our Youth Minister will set up a retreat date in each year. The candidates are also given a list of suggestions for their social concerns projects. If a candidate transfers into our program from another parish, documentation will be needed from the parish they transferred from.
